Welcome to Holbeck Class
General Class Information
A huge welcome to Holbeck Class. Our class consists of Reception and Year 1 children and we are lucky enough to enjoy an exciting curriculum filled with lots of learning through play and exploration alongside some more formal whole-class sessions.
We love learning and love to try new things. We have lots of escapades planned for this coming year from trips and visits to charity work and visitors. We thrive on trying new things and gaining new experiences. We are also lucky enough to take part in weekly baking sessions too!
The Holbeck Team
Meet the adults that will help you in your class:
Mrs Emily Baguley Class Teacher Mon / Tues / Weds | Miss Rebecca Worboys Class Teacher / EYFS Lead Weds / Thurs / Fri | Ms Sarah Hennessey Teaching Assistant All Week | Ms Millie Topley 1:1 Care Assistant Mornings |
Our PE lessons are weekly on FRIDAY afternoons.
It would be helpful for children to keep their PE in school all week to cater for any possible timetable changes. Please label all items of your child's PE kit. Long hair must be tied up and all jewellery removed.
Reading: All children are encouraged to read as much as possible, and are expected to read with an adult at home at least 3 times per week. Please record this in your child's reading dairy. In Holbeck, children will move their owl up our class reading tree for each read. Those that are at the top of the tree on a Friday (3 reads) will be entered into a prize draw to choose a story sack to take home and enjoy for the week. All children in school also earn rewards for each 100 reads as per our whole school reading reward scheme.
Reading books are changed every FRIDAY.
Rhino Words: All children will have 'Rhino Words' that they will need to learn each week. Reception children will need to learn to read these words and year 1 children will need to learn to spell these words. These words are 'tricky words' which means they need to be learnt by memory/ sight as children can't sound them out using their phonics. Children will need to get ALL words correct on their card to move on to the next set.
Rhino words are tested every THURSDAY.
Spring Term 1 Topic- "Around the World"
See our topic web below for information about what we will be learning this half term:
In Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1 we use an online learning journal called 'Tapestry' to share your child's learning with you as well as with other professionals.
Tapestry allows you to log in and see what your child has been learning in school and gives you the opportunity to share experiences from home with us, which we find super helpful when building a relationship with our children.
This is a secure site which allows only you to view your child's learning journey and gives you an insight to the learning opportunities they access whilst with us in school.
To find out how to share your special family times with us on Tapestry please click the link below...
