Welcome to Thoresby class!
We are so very excited to welcome you to Thoresby Class 2020-2021! We have a great year ahead and we are looking forward to seeing you all and getting started.
A few bits for you to note:
Equipment - Your child is not permitted to bring any equipment, such as stationery, to school with them as each child has been provided with their own pencil case complete with pencils, ruler and crayons. They will have a tray which contains this stationery pack, their reading book and their maths pack. These will be sanitised daily.
P.E kits – Our PE session is Wednesday PM. PE kits consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts or joggers, trainers or plimsolls and a jumper or hoodie. We strongly recommend PE kits are taken home the same day. As all P.E. sessions will be exclusively on our section of the playground, therefore outside in Autumn, so these will probably need washing regularly anyway!
Reading books – Children won’t be allowed to take reading books home initially, so they will be asked to select a book from our brand new range in class to keep in their trays and read at school. I have timetabled in additional reading time during the school day to compensate for this. Children may read free choice at home, or use their MyON login to access electronic books. Details of MyON login refreshers will be sent home the first week back if you are not aware of how to use this.
Reading is extremely important and despite not being able to take books home I hope children will use this as an opportunity to explore books, magazines, newspapers or reference books, anything they enjoy! The more children can read and discuss books they better their understanding and inference skills will develop J
Break times - Break times will be held on the playground as this is our designated area. A new ‘snack’ system is also in place, please look out for a school text message with a link to this information.
Timetable - Please see a copy of our general timetable. The topic sessions will vary on a week to week basis to cover the whole curriculum. We are extremely lucky to welcome Mrs Mathews back to Thoresby class all week and Mrs Walls will be working with us in the morning too.
Curriculum - Our class will be maintaining a cross-curricular approach and our main theme of this half term is I am Warrior! - We will be focusing on the Romans and Celts.
Homework – Thoresby class homework consists of spelling practice, a Maths/ English task and reading. This will be provided electronically via the school website on a Monday, due the following Monday. Homework is then marked or looked at as a class on the Monday. Homework is used in Thoresby class to consolidate learning and provide a different opportunity to explore skills. Homework is not used as an assessment tool, so do not be afraid to help if they are really unsure or stuck.
Remember, don’t hesitate to email any additional queries.
