Sherwood

Welcome to Sherwood Class!

A huge welcome to Sherwood class for the 2023-2024 academic year. This year is very special as our class consists of all of our Year 2 children! We are really excited for some fun-filled learning, interesting topics and new experiences.

The Sherwood Team

Meet the adults that will help you in your class:

Mrs Kelly McNally

Class Teacher (Monday-Wednesday)

Miss Rebecca Worboys

Class Teacher (Wednesday-Friday)

Mrs Sarah Morton

PE

Our PE lessons are weekly on Thursday afternoons. It would be helpful for children to keep their PE in school all week to cater for any possible timetable changes. Please label all items of your child's PE kit. Long hair must be tied up and all jewellery removed.

For autumn term 1, our PE lessons will be football (outdoor kit needed).

For autumn term 2, our PE lessons will be dance (indoor kit needed).

For spring term 1, our PE lessons will be gymnastics (indoor kit needed).

For spring term 2, our PE lessons will be ball skills (outdoor kit needed).

For summer term 1, our PE lessons will be team games (outdoor kit needed).

For summer term 2, our PE lesson will be athletics (outdoor kit needed).

Homework

  • The children are expected to read as much as possible, and be listened to aloud at least 3 times per week. Please record this in your child's reading dairy. Children earn rewards for each 100 reads as per our whole school reading reward scheme.
Reading books are changed on a rolling programme by coloured group (books are only changed if 3 or more reads have been recorded in their reading diary):

  • Alongside reading, the children will have spellings to learn (tested on a Thursday) and maths challenges to practise in preparation for our weekly challenges (big maths and times tables) on a Friday.
  • Optional weekly homework, based on your child's current learning, will be sent home on Friday's and should be completed in their homework books by the following Friday. When your child returns their completed homework, they are able to roll the dice and play our class 'homeworkopoly' game with a chance to receive special rewards.

Summer Term Topic

Our topic for the summer term will be 'Pirates- Land Ahoy'
