Sherwood Class
Welcome
Hello and welcome to our class page!
We are a mixed class of Year 1 and 2 children. Our classroom is a friendly place where everyone is included and supported. We enjoy learning new things together and helping each other when something feels tricky.
In our class, we work hard, try our best and celebrate our achievements. We love reading, writing, maths, and we also get to do lots of creative projects, outdoor learning and fun activities.
We think our class is special because we are like one big team- we respect each other, listen carefully, and enjoy learning side by side.
We hope you enjoy looking at our page and finding out all about what we've been learning!

Class Information
P.E.
Our PE lessons are weekly on WEDNESDAY afternoons.
It would be helpful for children to keep their PE in school all week to cater for any possible timetable changes. Please label all items of your child's PE kit, including footwear. Long hair must be tied up and all jewellery removed.
Homework
In Sherwood class, we believe homework should help children practise key skills and build confidence.
Reading- We ask that children read at least 3x per week at home. Reading diaries (one entry per day please) will be checked and books changed every Friday. There are lots of benefits to re-reading the same book several times, such as building fluency, expression and deeper understanding. If your child finishes their school book, they are very welcome to read any other books you have at home and record these in their diary.
Spellings- Spellings will be tested every Friday. All children are encouraged to practice the words on their card which contain 4 words that follow a certain spelling pattern and 1 'tricky' word. You can find all spelling cards under the 'support and resources' section of this class page. We will record which spellings your child is currently working on in their school diary.
Big Maths, Beat That- Every Friday children will be encouraged to beat their previous best score in a rapid-fire, timed maths challenge which focuses on improving numeracy, fluency and confidence in core skills like number bonds, times tables and addition facts. If you would like to practice at home the timed 'jingles' and sheets are available in the 'support and resources' section of this class page.
Thank you for your support with homework- regular practice makes a huge difference to children's progress and confidence.
